The best way to appreciate the pavilions is to see them in person. They're located just off Northern Boulevard in Flushing, Queens, a few hundred yards north of the Mets' stadium. Here's how to get to them:

By subway: Take the 7 train to the Mets/Willets Point stop. Walk north on 126th Street — the Mets' stadium will be on your left and lots of ramshackle muffler shops will be on your right. When you get to 34th Avenue, turn left. Walk about 1000 feet to the traffic light, then turn right, and you should see the pavilions beckoning from beyond the expressway overpass. Walk that way and there you are.

By car from Brooklyn or Staten Island: Take the BQE to the Grand Central Parkway east. Take the Northern Boulevard exit (Exit 9E). At the bottom of the exit ramp, make a right. Proceed to the traffic light (the stadium should be on your left) and make a right. The pavilions should be right in front of you as you drive under the expressway overpass. As long as there isn't a ballgame underway, you should be able to bear left and park for free at the World's Fair Marina. Otherwise, you'll have to pay for parking in one of the stadium lots.

By car from Manhattan and points west: Take the Manhattan Bridge to the BQE, or the Queens Midtown Tunnel to the LIE to the BQE. Then take the BQE to the Grand Central Parkway east.

By car from the Bronx: Take the Triborogh/RFK Bridge to the Grand Central Parkway east.

By car from eastern Queens and Long Island: Take the LIE to the Grand Central Parkway west. Take the Northern Boulevard exit (Exit 9E). Bear left at the access road (the stadium parking lot should be on your right; if in doubt, follow signs to "World's Fair Marina") and proceed until you reach the traffic light. Turn left and the pavilions should be right in front of you as you drive under the expressway overpass. As long as there isn't a ballgame underway, you should be able to bear left and park for free at the World's Fair Marina. Otherwise, you'll have to pay for parking in one of the stadium lots.

Incidentally, there's a decent chance that you've already seen the marina pavilions without realizing it. They're visible from the Whitestone Expressway as you go past the Mets' stadium in Queens. Depending on your plane's approach route, you may also be able to see them as your flight comes in for a landing at LaGuardia. But don't let that placate you — go see them in person.
